Plus, there is a ton more content to enjoy on our site. The Home Theater is a variation of the Television. It is characterized by its use of speakers, greatly advanced technology and remote control functionality. The term "home theatre" was originally coined in the 70s to market this type of system. Today, home theater systems are still popular with consumers due to their superior quality and sound production. There are also many different types of home theater systems available for purchase today that vary in price and size as well as function ability and versatility.

There are three main types of home theaters:

Component Systems- The most common and minimalistic type of home theater system.

Surround Sound Systems- Basic home theater systems that have 5.1 channel surround sound capability. The main components are built into the TV itself, while the receiver is located in the AV (Audio/Video) Center. Companies such as Klipsch, Onkyo, Polk Audio espouse this method of system design to produce optimal auditory response and fuller realism in sound reproduction without larger speakers or more space requirements.

Mono Systems- A mono system typically uses just one speaker. It is the smallest type of home theater system.

Home Theatres can be broken down into these categories:

Whole House Systems- A whole house system is one that consists of a receiver, subwoofers, video processor and speakers in each room of the house. Typically these systems are much larger than the Component system.

Surround Sound Systems- System that uses a surround sound reproduction system for more immersive audio reproduction in each room. Usually utilizes 5.1 channel capability but can vary from 4.3 to 7.2 channel capability depending upon how many speakers are used within the room.
